Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement [L5]: Notes

WARNING:

Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure". (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [L5] .)

CAUTION:

Parts for engines manufactured in Mexico and Hiroshima cannot be used interchangeably as the engine will not operate correctly resulting in a serious malfunction. To prevent this, when replacing parts refer to the 'VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) CODE ' table below and verify the engine's place of manufacture before performing the servicing. Remove the timing chain. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .)
Remove the generator, but do not remove it from the vehicle. Fix the generator using a rope to prevent it from falling. (See GENERATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .)
Remove the exhaust manifold. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .)
Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [L5] .)
Remove the intake manifold. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L5] .)
Disconnect the following parts.
1. Radiator upper hose
2. Water hose
3. Heater hose
4. Wiring harness
To firmly support the engine, first set the engine jack to the oil pan.

Remove in the order indicated in the table.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Inspect the compression. (See COMPRESSION INSPECTION [L5] .)
