NO. 31 M POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN M POSITION/M POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES IN D POSITION (FS5A-EL) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS POSITION SWITCH SIGNAL OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER Inspect the MNL SW PID value using the M-MDS. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .) Is the MNL SW PID value normal?	Yes	Go to Step 3.
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS M POSITION SWITCH OR M POSITION SWITCH RELATED WIRING HARNESS Inspect the M position switch. (See M POSITION SWITCH INSPECTION .) Is the M position switch normal?	Yes	Inspect for short to ground circuit in wiring harness between TCM terminal 2B and selector lever component terminal A. Repair or replace the any malfunctioning parts.
2		No	Replace the M position switch. (See M POSITION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3	INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION .) Is instrument cluster normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Replace the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4	Verify test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM.
