Diagnostic procedure

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE CHART

STEP Inspection Action
1 VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM 
  • Has the customer indicated that there is a lack of power?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Go to Step 3.
2 VERIFY THAT VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON MUD OR SLIPPERY ROAD 
  • Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
  • Verify the following monitoring value using the PID/data monitor function.
    • DGP_DIS_1 (traveled distance since last recording of DTC P1712:00)
  • Verify with the customer if the vehicle had been driven on a muddy or slippery road at the traveled distance indicated by the above monitoring value.
  • Has the customer driven on a muddy or slippery road?
Yes Explain to the customer that the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure, however, this does not indicate a malfunction. After explanation, go to the next step.
No Verify that the cause of the lack of power is engine-related. (See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC INDEX .)
After inspection, go to the next step.
3 VERIFY NO DTCs ARE PRESENT  Yes Go to the applicable DTC inspection
(See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE .)
No Go to the next step.
4 CLEAR DTC P1712:00 
  • Clear the DTC using the M-MDS.
  • Switch the ignition to off, and then switch the ignition to ON.
  • Verify the DTCs recorded in the TCM. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Has DTC P1712:00 been recorded?
Yes Repeat Step 4.
No DTC troubleshooting completed.
