Normal Operation

The instrument cluster receives the ABS input from the ABS module through control circuit (L/O). When an ABS concern exists or the ABS module is disconnected, the ABS module removes the ground on the control circuit and the instrument cluster turns on the ABS warning indicator.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following: 

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR PINPOINT TEST 8

PINPOINT TEST 8 THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
  • Key in ON position.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool:
    • Instrument Cluster DataLogger
  • Select the instrument cluster ABS warning indicator (ABSJ.AMP) active command. Command the ABS warning indicator on. Observe the ABS warning indicator.
  • Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate when commanded on? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 4.
2 VERIFY THE ABS MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect: ABS Module connector 0413-102.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Observe the ABS warning indicator.
  • Does the ABS warning indicator illuminate? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 4.
3 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the ABS module connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes INSTALL a new ABS module. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes INSTALL a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
