Normal Operation
The odometer is controlled by a rolling count signal sent from the powertrain control module (PCM) to the instrument cluster over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus lines. The instrument cluster interprets the signal sent from the PCM and displays the current mileage on the odometer liquid crystal display (LCD). The instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory if the instrument cluster fails to receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM and the odometer displays--.
DTC B2143 (NVM Memory Failure) - sets if the instrument cluster detects a nonvolatile memory failure during its self-test sequence.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM
- Instrument cluster

| 2 | RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SELF-TESTS

Yes | CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the key and wait 10 seconds. REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U0100 is retrieved again, go to step 4. |
| No | Go to next step. | ||
| 3 | CHECK THE ODOMETER DISPLAY FOR CORRECT OPERATION

Yes | Go to next step. |
| No | Go to step 5. | ||
| 4 | CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
|
Yes | INSTALL a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . TEST the system for normal operation. |
| No | The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. | ||
| 5 | CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR CORRECT OPERATION

Yes | INSTALL a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation |
| No | The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. | ||
