Normal Operation

The key-in-ignition warning chime sounds when the driver door is opened with the key in the ignition lock cylinder, and the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position. The instrument cluster uses the driver door ajar status, ignition run/start position status, or operational mode of the cluster, and the key-in-ignition status to determine when to sound the chime. When the ignition key is inserted in the ignition lock cylinder, a ground signal is sent to the instrument cluster through the clockspring and the key-in-ignition switch. The instrument cluster then looks at the ignition switch position by monitoring for a voltage applied to the run/start input circuit. If the cluster does not see a voltage on the run/start circuit and the key-in-ignition is grounded, it looks to see if the driver door ajar input is grounded through the door ajar switch. If all 3 of these conditions exist, the instrument cluster sounds the key-in-ignition warning chime.

DTC B1352 (Ignition Key-In Circuit Fault) - is a continuous DTC that sets in the instrument cluster if the instrument cluster detects an open on circuit (L/GY).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following: 

KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME INOPERATIVE PINPOINT TEST 1

PINPOINT TEST 1 KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR
  • Key in ON position.
  • With the driver door opened, observe the door ajar warning indicator.
  • Does the door ajar warning indicator operate correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
2 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION SWITCH OPERATION
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester:
    • Instrument Cluster DataLogger
  • Select the instrument cluster key-in-ignition (IGN_KEY) PID. Monitor the key-in-ignition PID.
  • Does the PID indicate the key is in? 
Yes Go to step 6.
No Go to next step.
3 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION SWITCH OPERATION
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202a.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the clockspring 0922-202a pin 10, circuit (L/GY), harness side and ground.
  • Select the instrument cluster key-in-ignition (IGN_KEY) PID. Monitor the key-in-ignition PID.
  • Does the PID indicate the key is in with the jumper wire connected? 
Yes REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to next step.
No REMOVE the jumper wire. Go to step 5.
4 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Key-In-Ignition Warning Switch connector.
  • Measure the resistance between the lower clockspring pin 10, component side and the key-in-ignition warning switch, component side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a hew key-in-ignition warning switch. REFER to KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (L/GY) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster connector 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 4, circuit (L/GY), harness side and the clockspring 0922-202a pin 10, circuit (L/GY), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes INSTALL a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
