Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Brake fluid level
    • Brake fluid reservoir
    • Tire pressure
    • Tire size or mismatched tires
    • Base brake system
    • Parking brake cable
    • HCU bracket
    • Wheel speed sensor ring(s)
    • Steering and/or suspension component(s)
    • Smart junction box (SJB)fuse(s)
      • 20 (10A)
      • 32 (5A)
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuses:
      • 17 (40 A)
      • 33(30A)
    • Circuitry
    • Electrical connector(s)
    • Brake fluid level switch
    • Wheel speed sensor
    • Hydraulic control unit
    • Anti-lock brake system (ABS) module
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the WDS or equivalent tester to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the WDS or equivalent tester menu. If the WDS or equivalent tester does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the WDS or equivalent tester still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the WDS or equivalent tester manual .
  6. Carry out the WDS or equivalent tester data link test. If the WDS or equivalent tester responds with:
