Oil Pan Removal / Installation - 3.0L 4WD: Removal

  1. Remove the flywheel or flexplate. See FLYWHEEL REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L , or FLEXPLATE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
    CAUTION:
    • Tape the universal joint bearing caps to prevent them from falling off the universal joints.
    CAUTION:
    • Index-mark the front axle pinion flange to the front driveshaft.
  2. Remove and discard the bolts and straps. Secure the drive shaft aside.

  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Secure the front axle housing to a suitable jack.

    NOTE:
    • Only 2 bolts shown.
  5. Remove the 3 axle housing mounting bolts and lower the axle housing approximately 50.8 mm (2 inches).

  6. Remove the oil pan bolts and the oil pan.
