Intake Manifold Lower Removal / Installation - 3.0L: Removal

  1. Drain the engine cooling system. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT -- 3.0L .
  2. Remove both valve covers. See VALVE COVER - (RH) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L , and VALVE COVER - (LH) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose, heater hose and coolant bypass hose.

  4. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and detach the wiring from the stud bolt.

  6. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors and position the engine wiring harness aside.
  7. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the fuel tube spring lock coupling. See FUEL LINE AND VAPOR LINE QUICK DISCONNECT FITTINGS , .
  8. Loosen the rocker arm bolts.

  9. Remove the push rod for the number three cylinder intake valve.
  10. Remove the bolts from the lower intake manifold.

    NOTE:
    • Gently loosen the intake manifold to separate the silicone sealant from the cylinder block.
  11. Remove the lower intake manifold.

  12. Remove and discard the intake manifold gaskets and end seals.

    CAUTION:
    • Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
    NOTE:
    • To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Observe all warnings and cautions and follow all application directions contained on the packaging of the silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep.
  13. Clean the lower intake manifold gasket mating surfaces.
