Three-Way Catalytic Converter Removal / Installation - 2.3L

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist See LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the downstream oxygen sensor connector.
  3. Remove the downstream oxygen sensor. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION , .
  4. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. See MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L , .
  5. Remove the nuts.
    NOTE:
    • The exhaust hanger bracket insulators can be reused if they show no signs of damage.
  6. Remove the three way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.
  7. Install the exhaust inlet pipe gasket, the three-way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.
  8. Install the nuts.

    Tightening torque 

    40 Nm {4.1 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf} 

  9. Install the muffler and tailpipe. See MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L , .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
