Valve Spring Inspection

  1. Measure the installed length of each valve spring. Verify the length is within specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .

  2. Measure the free length of each valve spring. Verify the length is within specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Measure the out-of-square on each valve spring.
    1. Turn the valve spring and observe the space between the top of the valve spring and the square. Replace the valve spring if out of specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .

  4. Using Valve/Clutch Spring Tester SST 303-006 (TOOL-6573-DD)  or equivalent, check the valve springs for proper strength at the specified valve spring length.
