Timing Chain Cover: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda B3000 and 2001 Mazda B3000. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. See DRAINING . Remove accessory drive belt. Remove left-handed nut retaining fan clutch. Remove cooling fan assembly. Remove cooling fan/water pump pulley. Remove A/C bracket, brace and compressor as an assembly, if equipped, and position aside.
  2. Remove generator adjusting arm and brace, and position generator aside. Remove crankshaft pulley. Using Crankshaft Damper Remover (T58P-6316-D), remove crankshaft damper. Remove hoses from water pump. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN . Remove bolts retaining timing chain cover and water pump assembly to engine. See Fig 1. Remove timing chain cover and water pump as an assembly.
