Removal (Lower)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda B3000 and 2001 Mazda B3000. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. See DRAINING . Remove air cleaner duct hose. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Using Disconnect Tool (49-UN01-051) for 3/8" line, or (49-UN01-052) for 1/2" line, disconnect fuel supply and return lines. See Figure.
  2. Remove throttle linkage shield and disconnect linkage. Mark and disconnect vacuum hoses from throttle body. Mark and disconnect electrical connectors. Disconnect upper radiator hose from thermostat housing and remove thermostat housing. Remove ignition coil from throttle body.
  3. Disconnect fuel injector harness connectors. Remove fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors as an assembly. Remove upper intake manifold. Remove generator support brace. Disconnect heater hoses and bypass hose. Remove spark plug wires. Rotate engine until No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke.
  4. Note position of camshaft position sensor electrical connector on sensor and remove connector. Remove camshaft position sensor retaining screws and remove sensor. Remove valve covers. See VALVE COVER . Loosen cylinder No. 3 intake valve rocker arm. Rotate rocker arm off push rod. Remove push rod. Remove intake manifold retaining bolts. Remove generator if necessary. Remove lower intake manifold.
    NOTE: Note location of each rocker arm and push rod and replace in original location to prevent premature wear.
