Three-Way Catalytic Converter Removal / Installation - 4.0L

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
  2. Disconnect the downstream oxygen connector.
  3. Remove the downstream oxygen sensor. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL / INSTALLATION , .
  4. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. See MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L/4.0L , .
  5. Remove the nuts.
    NOTE:
    • The exhaust hanger bracket insulators can be reused if they show no signs of damage.
  6. Remove the three-way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.
  7. Install the exhaust inlet pipe gasket, the three-way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.
  8. Install the nuts.

    Tightening torque 

    40 Nm {4.1 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf} 

  9. Install the muffler and tailpipe. See MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L/4.0L , .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
