Possible Causes

A driver air bag status fault can be caused by:

A passenger air bag status fault can be caused by:

NOTE:
  • Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough Inspection and Verification before proceeding with the Pinpoint Test.

PINPOINT TEST 7 DTC B2293 - RESTRAINT SYSTEM - AIR BAG FAULT
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK FOR A HARD OR INTERMITTENT DTC
WARNING:
  • Restraint system diagnostic tools are for service only. Tools must be removed prior to operating the vehicle over the road. Failure to remove restraint system diagnostic tools could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
WARNING:
  • Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
WARNING:
  • The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
WARNING:
  • Never probe the electrical connector on a safety canopy module. Doing so can result in safety canopy deployment.
NOTE:
  • The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: On-Demand Self-Test/Retrieve and Record Continuous Memory DTCs
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester:

View and Record DTC B2293 Fault PIDs
  • Was on-demand DTC B2293 retrieved? 
Yes This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self-test. Go to next step.
No This is an intermittent fault when present as a continuous memory DTC only (DTC not retrieved on demand). The fault condition is not present at this time. Go to step 38.
2 CHECK THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULES
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • If the fault PID was reported for the driver air bag module:
  • remove the driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE ,
  • connect the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F395 (2 required) to the driver air bag module squib 1 and squib 2 electrical connectors.
  • If the fault PID was reported for the passenger air bag module:
  • disconnect the passenger air bag module connector 0810-104.
  • connect the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F403 to the passenger air bag module connector 0810-104.
  • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: Test/Retrieve and Record Continuous Memory DTCs.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: View and Record DTC B2293 Fault PIDs
  • Was on-demand DTC B2293 retrieved? 
Yes This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self-test.
Using the fault PIDs recorded in Step G1, GO to the appropriate pinpoint test step.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a short to ground fault, Go to next step.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 5.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 7.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 11.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 14.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 15.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 16.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 18.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 20.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 22.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 24.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 28.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 31.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 32.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 33.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 35.
No If the fault PID was for driver air bag module in Step 1, INSTALL a new driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE , . Go to step 39.
If the fault PID was for passenger air bag module in Step 1, INSTALL a new passenger air bag module. See PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE , . Go to step 39.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING ,
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 1 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 4, circuit (V/BR), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 3, circuit (Y/G), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 4, circuit (V/BR), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 3, circuit 1 (Y/G), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (V/BR) or circuit (Y/G). Go to step 39.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR)/(R/O) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G)/(GY/W) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 1 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Measure the voltage between driver air bag module squib 1 electrical connector, harness side and ground; and between driver air bag module squib 1 electrical connector, harness side and ground.

Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 1, circuit (V/BR), harness side and ground; and between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 2, circuit (Y/G), harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (V/BR) or circuit (Y/G). Go to step 39.
7 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 1 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 4, circuit (V/BR), harness side and driver air bag module squib 1 electrical connector, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 9.
No Go to next step.
8 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 4, circuit (V/BR), harness side and clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 1, circuit (V/BR), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (V/BR). Go to step 39.
9 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 3, circuit (Y/G), harness side and driver air bag module squib 1 electrical connector, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
10 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 3, circuit (Y/G), harness side and clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 2, circuit (Y/G), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (Y/G). Go to step 39.
11 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G)/(GY/W) FOR LOW RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE AND RCM
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING ,
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 1 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Measure the resistance between driver air bag module squib 1 electrical connector circuit (V/BR), harness side and circuit (Y/G) (GR/W) harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
12 CHECK THE RCM FOR LOW RESISTANCE
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 3 and connector 0810-101 b pin 4, component side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 37.
13 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/BR) AND CIRCUIT (Y/G) FOR LOW RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE CLOCKSPRING AND RCM
  • Connect: RCM connectors 0810-101 b and 0810-101 a
  • Disconnect Clockspring connector 09 22-20 2b
  • Measure the resistance between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 1, circuit (V/BR), harness side and connector 0922-202b pin 2, circuit (Y/G), harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (V/BR) and circuit (Y/G). Go to step 39.
14 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/L) AND CIRCUIT (V/G) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 1, circuit (GY/L), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 2, circuit (V/G), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (GY/L) or circuit (V/G). Go to step 39.
15 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/L) AND CIRCUIT (V/G) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in the OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING ,
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between passenger air bag connector 0810-104 pin 3, circuit (GY/L), harness side and ground; and between passenger air bag connector 0810-104 pin 4, circuit (V/G), harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No. Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (GY/L) or circuit (V/G). Go to step 39.
16 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/L) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in the OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 1, circuit (GY/L), harness side and passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 3, circuit (GY/L), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (GY/L). Go to step 39.
17 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/G) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101 b pin 2, circuit (V/G), harness side and passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 4, circuit (V/G), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No REPAIR circuit (V/G). Go to step 39.
18 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/L) AND CIRCUIT (V/G) FOR LOW RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE AND RCM
  • Key in the OFF position.
  • De power the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Measure the resistance between passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 3, circuit (GY/L), harness side and connector 0810-104 pin 4, circuit (V/G), harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
19 CHECK THE RCM FOR LOW RESISTANCE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101 b pin 1, component side, and connector 0810-101b pin 2, component side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes REPAIR circuit (GY/L) and circuit (V/G). Go to step 39.
No Go to step 37.
20 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 2 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 16, circuit (L), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 15, circuit (W), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
21 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101 b pin 16, circuit (L), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 15, circuit (W), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (L) or circuit (W). Go to step 39.
22 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W)/(GY/O) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 2 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Measure the voltage between driver air bag module squib 2 electrical connector, harness side and ground; and driver air bag module squib 2 electrical connector, harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes Go to step 37. v
No Go to next step.
23 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 3, circuit (L), harness side and ground; and between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 4, circuit (W), harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (L) or circuit (W). Go to step 39.
24 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 2 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 16, circuit (L), harness side and driver air bag module squib 2 electrical connector, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 26.
No Go to next step.
25 CHECK CIRCUIT (L) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 16, circuit (L), harness side and clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 3, circuit (L), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (L). Go to step 39.
26 CHECK CIRCUIT (W)/(GY/W) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 15, circuit (W), harness side and driver air bag module squib 2 electrical connector, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
27 CHECK CIRCUIT (W) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 15, circuit (W), harness side and clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 4, circuit (W), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (W). Go to step 39.
28 CHECK FOR LOW RESISTANCE ON CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W) BETWEEN THE RCM AND DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Driver Air Bag Module Squib 2 Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Measure the resistance between driver air bag module squib 2 electrical connector, harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
29 CHECK THE RCM FOR LOW RESISTANCE
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 16, component side and connector 0810-10 1b pin 15, component side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 37.
30 CHECK FOR LOW RESISTANCE ON CIRCUIT (L) AND CIRCUIT (W) BETWEEN THE DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE AND CLOCKSPRING
  • Connect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101 a
  • Disconnect: Clockspring connector 0922-202b
  • Measure the resistance between clockspring connector 0922-202b pin 3, circuit (L), harness side and connector 0922-202b pin 4, circuit (W), harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes INSTALL a new clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING , . Go to step 39.
No REPAIR circuit (L) and circuit (W). Go to step 39.
31 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/GY) AND CIRCUIT (W/L) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 5, circuit (Y/GY), harness side and ground; and between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 6, circuit (W/L), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (Y/GY) or circuit (W/L). Go to step 39.
32 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/GY) AND CIRCUIT (W/L) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in ON position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool.
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Measure the voltage between passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 1, circuit (Y/GY), harness side and ground; and between passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 2, circuit (W/L), harness side and ground.
  • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Due to the shorting bar feature in the electrical connector, the fault can exist in either circuit. Do not remove or defeat the shorting bar. REPAIR circuit (Y/GY) or circuit (W/L). Go to step 39.
33 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/GY) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 5, circuit (Y/GY), harness side and passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 1, circuit (Y/GY), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR circuit (Y/GY). Go to step 39.
34 CHECK CIRCUIT (W/L) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101b pin 6, circuit (W/L), harness side and passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 2, circuit (W/L), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No REPAIR circuit (W/L). Go to step 39.
35 CHECK FOR LOW RESISTANCE ON CIRCUIT (Y/GY) AND CIRCUIT (W/L) BETWEEN THE RCM AND PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Disconnect: Passenger Air Bag Module Restraint System Diagnostic Tool
  • Measure the resistance between passenger air bag module connector 0810-104 pin 1, circuit (Y/GY), harness side and connector 0810-104 pin 2, circuit (W/L), harness side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 37.
No Go to next step.
36 CHECK THE RCM FOR LOW RESISTANCE
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101b and 0810-101a.
  • Measure the resistance between RCM connector 0810-101 b pin 5, component side and connector 0810-101b pin 6, component side.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes REPAIR circuit (Y/GY) and circuit (W/L). Go to step 39.
No Go to next step.
37 CONFIRM THE RCM FAULT
NOTE:
  • Make sure all restraint system diagnostic tools, sensor electrical connectors and the RCM electrical connector are connected before carrying out the on-demand self-test. If not, erroneous DTCs will be recorded
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Connect: Restraint System Diagnostic Tools
  • Connect: RCM connectors 0810-101 b and 0810-101 a
  • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: On-Demand Self-Test/Retrieve and Record Continuous Memory DTCs
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: View and Record DTC B2293 Fault PIDs
  • Was on-demand DTC B2293 retrieved? 
Yes INSTALL a new RCM. See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) , . Go to step 39.
No CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. Go to step 39.
38 CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • If the fault PID was reported for the driver air bag module:
  • remove the driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE , .
  • connect Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F395 (2 required) to the driver air bag module squib 1 and squib 2 electrical connectors.
  • If the fault PID was reported for the passenger air bag module:
  • disconnect the passenger air bag module connector 0810-104.
  • connect the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool 418-F403 to the passenger air bag module 0810-104.
  • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , .
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: On-Demand Self-Test/Retrieve and Record Continuous Memory DTCs
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the IDS or equivalent tester: View and Record DTC B2293 Fault PIDs
  • Was on-demand DTC B2293 retrieved? 
Yes This is a hard fault. The fault condition is now present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self-test.
CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault at or near the affected air bag module connector. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. If an intermittent concern was found and repaired, Go to next step.
If an intermittent concern was not found and repaired, USE the fault PIDs recorded and GO to the appropriate pinpoint test step.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 3.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 5.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 7.
For driver air bag module squib 1 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 11.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 14.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 15.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 16.
For passenger air bag module squib 1 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 18.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 20.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 22.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 24.
For driver air bag module squib 2 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 28.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a short to ground fault, Go to step 31.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a short to battery fault, Go to step 32.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with an open circuit fault, Go to step 33.
For passenger air bag module squib 2 with a low resistance fault, Go to step 35.
No CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. Go to next step.
39 CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DTCs
  • Refer to the continuous memory DTCs recorded during Step 1.
  • Were any continuous memory DTCs retrieved during Step 1 ? 
Yes Do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX - RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) , for pinpoint test direction.
No RECONNECT the system. If previously directed to deactivate the system, REACTIVATE the system. See SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION , . REPOWER the system. See DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING , . PROVE OUT the system. CLEAR all RCM and OCS module DTCs.
