Water Pump Removal / Installation - 4.0L

- Disconnect negative battery cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT .
- Drain engine coolant. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 4.0L .
- Remove cooling fan blade and clutch. See COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L .
- Remove the bolts and position the fan shroud out of the way.
- Remove the drive belt. See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L .
- Remove the belt idler pulley.
- Slide the water bypass hose clamp back.
- Disconnect the heater hose at the water pump.
- Release the clamp.
- Remove the hose.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the water pump.
- Release the clamp.
- Remove the hose.
- Remove the water pump pulley.
- Remove the water pump.
- Clean all the sealing surfaces.CAUTION:
- Use care when scraping the water pump-to-engine block mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak paths.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Fill radiator with specified amount and type of engine coolant and bleed the cooling system. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 4.0L .
