Possible Causes

PARKING BRAKE ON WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 3 THE PARKING BRAKE ON WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION
  • Key in ON position.
  • Monitor the speedometer operation while driving over 5 km/h (3 mph).
  • Does the speedometer operate correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No REFER to SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER , to continue diagnosis of the speedometer.
2 CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION
  • Apply and release the parking brake.
  • Monitor the brake warning indicator while applying and releasing the parking brake.
  • Does the brake warning indicator turn on when the parking brake is applied and turn off when released? 
Yes Go to next step.
No See REFER to SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER , to continue diagnosis of the parking brake warning indicator.
3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
