Possible Causes

CAUTION:
  • Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR IS INOPERATIVE - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 17 DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Open and close each door while monitoring the interior lamps.
  • Do the interior lamps operate correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No See INTERIOR LIGHTING , to continue diagnosis on the interior lamps.
2 CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR INPUT TO THE CLUSTER
  • Key ON.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool:
    • Instrument Cluster PID
  • Select the instrument cluster external access ajar input switch status. Select and monitor the driver door ajar switch PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing the driver door.
  • Does the PID match the door position with the door open and closed? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 5.
3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM BOTH THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND SJB SELF-TESTS
  • Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-tests.
  • Are any DTCs retrieved? 
Yes If DTC U0140 is retrieved, CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-tests. If DTC U0140 is retrieved again, INSTALL a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) , . For all other DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX - B, C AND U CODES , .
No Go to next step.
4 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WARNING LAMP AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
  • Key ON.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool:
    • Instrument Cluster Active Command
  • Select the instrument cluster warning lamp and chime active command. Select the door ajar warning lamp active command on then off again. Observe the door ajar indicator.
  • Does the door ajar warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 
Yes Go to step 7.
No Go to step 8.
5 CHECK THE SJB FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280c.
  • Connect a fused (5A) jumper between the SJB J-2280C pin 2, circuit (V/O), harness side and ground.
  • Key ON.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool:
    • Instrument Cluster PID
  • Select the instrument cluster external access ajar input switch status. Select and monitor the driver door ajar switch PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing the driver door.
  • Does the PID indicate the door closed with the jumper wire disconnected and open with the jumper wire connected? 
Yes Go to step 7.
No Go to next step.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/O) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument cluster 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 2, circuit (V/O), harness side and the SJB J-2280c pin 2, circuit (V/O) harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 8.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) , . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
