Evaporative Emissions System Pinpoint Test 2: Hiss When Opening Fuel Cap

1
  • Was PCM Quick Test performed?
Yes If DTC P0455 or P1451 is present, go to applicable DTC. Otherwise, go to next step.
No Perform PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST .
2 TEST FOR EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) CANISTER, CANISTER VENT SOLENOID AND CANISTER VENT HOSE ASSEMBLY BLOCKAGE
  • Connect the EVAP System Leak Tester to the fuel filler pipe.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Close the canister vent (CV) solenoid by accessing Output Test Mode.
  • Pressurize the EVAP system to 3.48 kPa (14 in-H2O).
  • Open the CV solenoid.
  • Does the pressure drop immediately? 
Yes The EVAP system has passed the EVAP canister and bracket assembly blockage test. Go to step 6.
No Go to next step.
3 TEST FOR CANISTER VENT SOLENOID BLOCKAGE
  • Remove the CV solenoid from the EVAP canister.
  • Attempt to pressurize the EVAP system to 3.48 kPa (14 in-H2O).
  • Does the pressure stay above 1.99 kPa (8 in-H2O)? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Replace the CV solenoid. See CANISTER VENT SOLENOID REMOVAL / INSTALLATION .
4 TEST FOR EVAP CANISTER BLOCKAGE
  • Disconnect the EVAP canister tube (from the fuel tank) at the F-fitting from the EVAP canister.
  • Attempt to pressurize the EVAP system to 3.48 kPa (14 in-H2O).
  • Does the pressure stay above 1.99 kPa (8 in-H2O)? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new EVAP canister. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION .
5 TEST FOR EVAP CANISTER TUBE OR FUEL VAPOR VENT VALVE ASSEMBLY BLOCKAGE

  • Disconnect the fuel vapor vent valve assembly from the EVAP canister tube.
  • Attempt to pressurize the EVAP system to 3.48kPa(14in-H2O).
  • Does the pressure stay above 1.99 kPa (8 in-H2O)? 
Yes Install new fuel vapor vent valve(s) or assembly. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS VALVE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION .
No Install a new EVAP canister tube and/or fuel vapor tube(s) between the fuel tank and the EVAP canister and bracket assembly.
6 TEST FOR BLOCKAGE BETWEEN THE EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE AND THE FUEL TANK
  • Remove the fuel vapor hose (from the fuel tank) at the EVAP canister purge valve.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Close the canister vent (CV) solenoid by accessing Output Test Mode.
  • Attempt to pressurize the EVAP system to 3.48 kPa (14 in-H2O).
  • Does the pressure stay above 1.99 kPa (8 in-H2O)? 
Yes Install a new fuel vapor hose.
No The EVAP system has passed all the blockage tests. Reconnect all components. Perform the EVAP System Leak Test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If the system passes the leak test, perform EVAP Running Loss System Repair Verification Drive Cycle. See DRIVE CYCLES .
