Crankshaft Oil Clearance Inspection/Repair

NOTE:
  • Crankshaft main bearing journals must be within specification before checking journal clearance.
  1. Remove the crankshaft main bearing caps and bearings. Refer to ENGINE DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .
  2. Lay a piece of Plastigage off-center and fully across the face of each crankshaft main bearing surface.

    3. NOTE:
    • Do not turn the crankshaft while doing this procedure.
  3. Install and remove the crankshaft main bearing cap. Refer to ENGINE DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .
  4. Verify the crankshaft journal clearance. Refer to CYLINDER BLOCK SPECIFICATIONS .
    1. If out of specification, replace as necessary.
