Removal Note

    Both sides 

  1. Remove the camshaft roller followers. See VALVE TAPPET REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L  .
  2. RH side 

  3. Remove the RH hydraulic chain tensioner.

    NOTE:
    • Late build shown, early build similar.
  4. Install the camshaft sprocket holding tool SST  and the adaptor SST  on the rear of the RH cylinder head.

    Tightening Torque 

    10 Nm {1.0 kgf-m, 89 in-lbf}

    CAUTION:
    • The RH camshaft sprocket is a LH-threaded bolt.
  5. Using the torque wrench extension SST  and the camshaft sprocket nut socket, loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt.

  6. Remove the bolt and position the camshaft sprocket aside.
  7. LH side 

  8. Remove the LH hydraulic chain tensioner.

  9. Install the camshaft sprocket holding tool SST  and the adaptor SST  on the front of the LH camshaft and tighten the 2 top clamp bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  10. Loosen the bolt.

  11. Remove the bolt and position the camshaft sprocket aside.

    Both sides

    NOTE:
    • Mark the position of the camshaft bearing caps so they can be installed in their original positions.
    NOTE:
    • Late build shown, early build similar.
  12. Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the camshaft bearing caps and, if equipped, the oil supply tube.
  13. Remove the camshaft.
