Pinpoint Test 2: DTC C1186-Abs Power Relay Output Open Circuit And B1317 And B1318- Battery Voltage High/ Battery Voltage Low.

Normal Operation 

Fused battery voltage is sent from battery junction box (BJB) fuses 33 (30A) and 17 (40A) to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module along circuits (R) and (Y/LG) respectively. Fused ignition voltage is sent from smart junction box (SJB) fuse 20 (10A) to the ABS module along circuit (R) and 2 grounds are provided for the module along circuit (B). Operating voltage for the ABS module is normally between 10 and 17 volts.

Possible Causes 

CAUTION:
  • Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
NOTE:
  • DTC B1317 and B1318 are generated when the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module detects system voltage is less than 9 volts or greater than 19 volts for more than 1 second.

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK RECENT VEHICLE HISTORY
  • Using the WDS or equivalent tester, clear the DTCs.
  • Drive the vehicle.
  • Using the WDS or equivalent tester, retrieve the DTCs.
  • Is DTC B1317 or B1318 still present? 
Yes Go to next step.
No The system is operating normally at this time.
2 CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE
  • Measure the battery voltage between the positive and negative battery posts with the key ON engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Is the battery voltage between 10 and 13 volts with KOEO? 
Yes Go to next step.
No See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CHARGING SYSTEM .
3 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM
  • Key in START position.
  • Measure the battery voltage between the positive and negative battery posts with the engine running.
  • Is the battery voltage between 11 and 17 volts with the engine running? 
Yes Go to next step.
No See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CHARGING SYSTEM .
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (R) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: ABS module 0413-102.
  • Measure the voltage between ABS module 0413-102 pin 20, circuit (R), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Verify smart junction box (SJB) fuse 20 (10A) is OK. If OK, repair circuit (R) for an open. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (R) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the voltage between ABS module 0413-102 pin 11, circuit (R), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Verify battery junction box (BJB) fuse 33 (30A) is OK. If OK, repair circuit (R) for an open. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (Y/LG) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the voltage between the ABS module 0413-102 pin 28, circuit (Y/LG), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Verify BJB fuse 17 (40A) is OK. If OK, repair circuit (Y/LG) for an open. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
7 CHECK CIRCUIT (B) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between:
    • ABS module 0413-102 pin 1, circuit (B), harness side and ground.
    • ABS module 0413-102 pin 18, circuit (B), harness side and ground.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (B) for an open. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
8 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect all ABS connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion.
    • pushed-out pins.
    • spread terminals.
  • Connect all ABS connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new ABS module. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. Carry out the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
