Possible Causes

PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS ALWAYS ON PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 2 THE PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS ARE ALWAYS ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
  • Key OFF.
  • Check the recorded results from the SJB self-test.
  • Was DTC C1961 recorded? 
Yes Go to step 4.
No Go to next step.
2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
  • Disconnect: Headlamp switch 0918-103.
  • Do the parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new headlamp switch. See MAIN LIGHT SWITCH . Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (W/B) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

Disconnect: SJB J-2280d.

Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch 0918-103 pin 3, circuit (W/B), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 

Yes Go to step 9.
No Repair circuit (W/B) for a short to ground. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (BR) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280a.
  • Do the front parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Repair circuit (BR) for a short to voltage. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (B/P) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280c.
  • Do the rear parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Repair circuit (B/P) for a short to voltage. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (BR/W) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Measure the voltage between the trailer tow 0918-901 pin 2, circuit (BR/W), harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair circuit (BR/W) for a short to voltage. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
7 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH
  • Connect: SJB J-2280a and J-2280C.
  • Disconnect: Instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802.
  • Do the parking lamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new instrument panel dimmer switch. See INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH . Test the system for normal operation.
8 CHECK CIRCUIT (R/Y) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280c.
  • Do the front parking lamps continue to Illuminate? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (R/Y) for a short to voltage. Test the system for normal operation.
9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
