ONE OR MORE PARKING, REAR OR LICENSE PLATE LAMPS INOPERATIVE PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 1 ONE OR MORE PARKING, REAR OR LICENSE PLATE LAMPS IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 DETERMINE IF ALL THE PARKING LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
  • Key OFF.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
  • Are all the parking lamps inoperative?
Yes Verify the SJB fuse 31 (20A) is OK. If OK, go to next step.
No If all the front or all the rear parking lamps are inoperative, go to step 5.
If an individual parking lamp is inoperative, go to step 6.
2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
  • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Headlamp switch 0918-103.
  • Carry out the headlamp switch component test. See appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  • Is the headlamp switch OK?
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new headlamp switch. See MAIN LIGHT SWITCH . Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (B) FOR AN OPEN (HEADLAMP SWITCH)
  • Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch 0918-103 pin 5, circuit (B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (B) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (W/B) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280d.
  • Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch 0918-103 pin 3, circuit (W/B), harness side and SJB J-2280d pin 16, circuit (W/B), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Repair circuit (W/B) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK THE LIGHTING CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
  • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
  • Disconnect: SJBJ-2280c.
  • Measure the resistance between the SJB J-2280c pin 3 (rear parking lamps), circuit (B/P), harness side and ground; or between the SJB J-2280a pin 8 (front parking lamps), circuit (BR), harness side and ground
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Repair circuit (B/P) or (BR) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE LAMP
  • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative parking lamp.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between the inoperative lamp, harness side and ground. See CHART 1  at the end of the test.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Repair circuit (B) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair circuit (BR) or (B/P) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
