ELECTRONIC PRESSURE CONTROL (EPC) SOLENOID 5R44E AND 5R55E ONLY |
| DETECTION CONDITION |
- P1746 indicates EPC solenoid circuit open.
- P1747 indicates EPC solenoid circuit shorted.

- Wiring concerns:
- Open or short in vehicle harness.
- Damaged harness or connector.
- Damaged EPC solenoid.
- Damaged PCM.

EPC solenoid description
- A variable force style (VFS) solenoid an electro-hydraulic actuator combining a solenoid and a regulating valve.
- Current to the EPC solenoid varied by the PCM.
- Regulates transmission line pressure and line modulator pressure by producing resisting forces to the main regulator and line modulator circuits.

SOLENOID FUNCTIONAL TEST
- Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
- Enter output state control mode using WDS or equivalent tester.
- Install 300 psi pressure gauge into EPC tap.

- Monitor pressure gauge.
- Enter Parameter; EPC Mode.
- Select value -15, 30, 45, 60, 70 or 90 PSI.
- Press SEND.
- Select another value 0-90 psi.
- Press SEND.
- Enter SPC XXX Mode.
- Press SEND.
- Does the pressure reading match the commanded pressure ?

Yes |
Clear DTCs. |

Go to step 3. |

CHECK FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE

Yes |
Go to step 4. |
| No |
Check for open or short circuit in VPWR harness. Repair as necessary. Go to step 7. |

ELECTRICAL SIGNAL CHECK
- Leave positive lead connected to VPWR solenoid terminal and connect negative lead to the signal terminal of the EPC solenoid.
- Turn the solenoids ON and OFF, while monitoring the voltage reading on the DVOM, solenoid state on the WDS or equivalent tester (ON and OFF), listen for the solenoid to activate (click).
- Enter Trans-Bench Mode.
- Enter Parameter; EPC Mode.
- Select a value 0-90 psi.
- Press SEND.
- Select another value 0-90 psi.
- Press SEND.
- Enter SPC XXX Mode.
- Press SEND.
- Does the voltage and solenoid state change?

Yes |
Go to step 5. |
| No |
Check for open or short circuit in SIG harness. Repair if necessary. If OK, replace PCM. See
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) INSPECTION

CHECK SOLENOID RESISTANCE AT SOLENOID
- Disconnect transmission harness connector.
- Measure solenoid resistance by connecting an ohmmeter at the terminals of the solenoids.
- Is the resistance within 3.10-5.7 ohms?

Yes |
Go to step 6. |

Replace the solenoid. See

CHECK SOLENOID FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Check for continuity between engine ground and the EPC solenoid terminals with ohmmeter.
- Is there continuity?

Yes |
Replace the solenoid. See

VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTCs COMPLETED
- Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
- Clear DTCs from PCM memory using WDS or equivalent tester generic OBD-II function.
- Perform PCM Quick Test.
- Is same DTC present?

Yes |
Replace PCM and repeat PCM Quick Test. |
| No |
If any other DTC is present, go to applicable DTC inspection. If no DTC is present, troubleshooting complete. |
