SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - WARNING DEVICES

Problem	Possible Cause	ACTION
No communication with the instrument cluster	Circuitry Instrument cluster	See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the instrument cluster.
The safety belt warning chime does not operate correctly	Instrument cluster	Verify the safety belt warning indicator operates correctly. If the safety belt warning indicator operates correctly, install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER If the safety belt warning indicator does not operate correctly, See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the safety belt warning indicator.
The safety belt minder chime does not operate correctly	The safety belt minder is disabled	Enable the safety belt minder. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) to enable using a WDS or equivalent tester. To enable without using a WDS or equivalent tester, See SAFETY BELT MINDER DEACTIVATING/ACTIVATING .
The safety belt minder chime does not operate correctly	Instrument cluster	Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
The key-in-ignition warning chime does not operate correctly	Key-in-ignition warning switch Circuitry Instrument cluster	See PINPOINT TEST 1: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY .
The door ajar warning chime does not operate correctly	Instrument cluster	Verify the door ajar warning indicator operates correctly. If the door ajar warning indicator operates correctly, install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . If the door ajar warning indicator does not operate correctly, See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the door ajar warning indicator.
The headlamp on warning chime does not operate correctly	Circuitry Instrument cluster	See PINPOINT TEST 1: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY .
The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in ignition and headlamps off)	Key-in-ignition warning switch Circuitry Instrument cluster	VERIFY the parking lamps operate correctly. If the parking lamps operate correctly, see PINPOINT TEST 1: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY . If the parking lamps do not operate correctly, See PARKING, REAR AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS to continue diagnosis of the parking lamps.
All the chimes are inoperative	Instrument cluster	Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors. Check for corrosion and pushed-out pins. Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. If the concern is still present, install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
