LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 3 LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CARRY OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
  • Key ON.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool:
    • Instrument Cluster Active Command
  • Select the instrument cluster warning lamps active command. Trigger the all lamps active command ON and OFF. Observe the low oil pressure warning indicator.
  • Does the low oil pressure warning indicator illuminate when triggered on, and turn off when triggered off?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 7.
2 CHECK LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR OPERATION
  • Key ON.
  • Monitor the low oil pressure warning indicator.
  • Start the engine and monitor the low oil pressure warning indicator.
  • Does the low oil pressure warning indicator operate correctly?
Yes The system is OK.
No If the low oil pressure warning indicator is inoperative, go to next step.
If the low oil pressure warning indicator is always on, go to step 4.
3 CHECK FOR A STUCK CLOSED OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Oil pressure switch 0922-103.
  • Key ON.
  • Is the low oil pressure warning indicator on?
Yes Install a new oil pressure switch. See OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L , see OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L or see OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L . Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 6.
4 CHECK A FOR STUCK OPEN OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Oil pressure switch 0922-103.
  • Key ON.
  • Connect a fused jumper wire (10A) between the oil pressure switch 0922-103, (DG/W), harness side and ground.
  • Is the low oil pressure warning indicator on?
Yes Remove the jumper wire. Go to next step.
No Go to step 8.
5 5 CHECK CIRCUIT (DG/W) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument cluster 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 7, (DG/W), harness side and the oil pressure switch 0922-103, (DG/W), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Repair circuit (DG/W) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (DG/W) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument cluster 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220a pin 7, circuit (DG/W), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (DG/W) for a short to ground. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
8 CARRY OUT THE OIL PRESSURE TEST
  • Carry out the oil pressure test. See ENGINE INSPECTION .
  • Is the oil pressure within specification?
Yes Install a new oil pressure switch. See OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L , see OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L or see OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L . Test the system for normal operation.
No See ENGINE INSPECTION to continue diagnosis of the engine oil system.
