Possible Causes

SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR NEVER/ALWAYS ON PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 18 SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR LAMP OPERATION
  • Key ON.
  • Observe the safety belt warning indicator lamp prove out.
  • Does the safety belt lamp prove out correctly? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 8.
2 DETERMINE THE CONDITION
  • Key ON.
  • Observe the safety belt warning indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver safety belt.
  • Is the safety belt warning indicator always on? 
Yes Go to step 6.
No Go to next step.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (B) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Driver safety belt switch 0810-105.
  • Measure the resistance between the driver safety belt switch 0810-105 pin 2, circuit (B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (B) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE DRIVER SAFETY BELT SWITCH OPERATION
  • Measure the resistance between the driver safety belt switch 0810-105 pin 2, component side and the driver safety belt switch 0810-105 pin 4, component side with the safety belt buckled and unbuckled.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the safety belt unbuckled, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the seat belt buckled? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new driver safety belt switch. See SAFETY BELT BUCKLE AND PRETENSIONER - 60 PERCENT BENCH or see SAFETY BELT BUCKLE AND PRETENSIONER - BUCKET AND 40 PERCENT BENCH . Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (LG) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument cluster 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 9, circuit (LG), harness side and the safety belt buckle switch 0810-105 pin 4, circuit (LG), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 8.
No Repair circuit (LG) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Safety belt buckle switch 0810-105.
  • Key ON.
  • Observe the safety belt warning indicator.
  • Does the safety belt warning indicator continue to illuminate? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Install a new driver safety belt switch. See SAFETY BELT BUCKLE AND PRETENSIONER - 60 PERCENT BENCH or see SAFETY BELT BUCKLE AND PRETENSIONER - BUCKET AND 40 PERCENT BENCH . Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK CIRCUIT (LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument cluster 0922-102
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 9, circuit (LG), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (LG) for a short to ground. Test the system for normal operation.
8 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • Corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
