Rear Coolant Outlet Pipe Removal/Installation - 2.3L

  1. Drain the cooling system. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 2.3L  .
  2. Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (automatic) or MANUAL TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
    CAUTION:
    • Use a block of wood to protect the oil pan.
  3. Support the motor with an appropriate jack stand.

  4. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose.

  5. Disconnect the coolant temperature sender electrical connector.

  6. Remove the bolts, the rear coolant outlet pipe, and the gasket.
    NOTE:
    • Clean the gasket mating surfaces and install a new gasket.
    NOTE:
    • Inspect the two front coolant outlet pipe O-rings. Install new O-rings if necessary.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
