DTC B1431, B1432, B1438, B1450, B1840 WIPERS ARE INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK WIPER MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect wiper motor connector 0919-101.
  • Measure the resistance between wiper motor connector 0919-101 pin 3 circuit B harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to step 2.
No Repair B wire. Test the system for normal operation.
2 CHECK WIPER MOTOR FOR POWER
  • Measure the voltage between wiper motor connector 0919-101 pin 4 R harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 6.
No Go to step 3.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT R FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect SJB J-2280a.
  • Measure the resistance between wiper motor connector 0919-101 pin 4 circuit R and SJB connector J-2280a pin 4 circuit R.
  • Measure the resistance between wiper motor connector 0919-101 pin 4 circuit R harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the connectors, and greater than 10K ohms to ground?
Yes Go to step 4.
No Repair R wire. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT B/LG FOR POWER AT SJB
  • Disconnect SJB J-2280c.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between SJB J-2280c pin 32 circuit B/LG harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 8.
No Go to step 5.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT B/LG FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect ignition switch connector C-250.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB J-2280c pin 32 circuit B/LG harness side and ignition switch C-250 pin 3 circuit B/LG.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
No Repair B/LG wire. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK THE WIPER RUN/PARK RELAY
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect wiper run/park relay from engine compartment fuse box.
  • Check the wiper run/park relay. See WIPER/WASHER RELAY COMPONENT TEST .
  • Is the wiper run/park relay OK?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Replace the wiper run/park relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK THE WIPER HIGH/LOW RELAY
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect wiper high/low relay from engine compartment fuse box.
  • Check the wiper high/low relay. See WIPER/WASHER RELAY COMPONENT TEST .
  • Is the wiper high/low relay OK?
Yes Go to step 8.
No Replace the wiper high/low relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
8 CHECK SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Replace the SJB.
See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
