Headlamps Are On Continuously

PINPOINT TEST 4 - HEADLAMPS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY

PINPOINT TEST 4 HEADLAMPS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
NOTE:
  • Make sure the multifunction switch is in the low beam position

  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Main Light Switch 0918-103.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
  • Are the fuse(s) OK? 
Yes Go to step 2.
No Install a new headlamp switch. See MAIN LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
  • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch 0918-105.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes If the high beams are illuminated, Go to step 6. If the low beams are illuminated, Go to step 4.
No Go to step 3.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT V/LB FOR A SHORT TO POWER
  • Measure the voltage between the multifunction switch 0918-105 pin 8, circuit V/LB, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
No Install a new multifunction switch. See MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT R/B FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280c.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Go to step 5.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK THE SJB FOR A SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280a.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes If RH headlamp, Repair circuit DL/LG. Test the system for normal operation.
If LH headlamp, Repair circuit W/LG. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 9.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT GY/O FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280b.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Go to step 7.
No Repair circuit GY/O. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK CIRCUIT LG/B FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280a.
  • Connect: SJB J-2280b.
  • Do the headlamps continue to illuminate? 
Yes Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 8.
8 CHECK CIRCUIT GY/LB FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Observe the high beam indicator.
  • Is the high beam indicator illuminated? 
Yes Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 9.
9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new SJB. Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
