Muffler And Tailpipe Removal/Installation - 3.0L

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. See LIFTING .
  2. Remove the nuts and bolts.
    NOTE:
    • The exhaust hanger insulators can be reused if they show no signs of damage.
  3. Remove the exhaust hanger insulators and discard them if they are damaged.

  4. Remove the tailpipe from the exhaust converter frame bracket.

  5. Position the muffler and tailpipe assembly.
    CAUTION:
    • To prevent damage to the exhaust insulators do not use oil or grease based lubricants.
    NOTE:
    • A soap and water solution will ease installation of the exhaust hanger insulators.
  6. Install the exhaust hanger insulators.
  7. Install the tailpipe into the exhaust hanger insulator.
  8. Position the muffler to the catalytic converter and install the nuts and bolts.

    Tightening torque 

    34-46 N.m { 3.47-4.69 kgf.m, 25-33 ft.lbf} 

  9. Lower the vehicle.
