Instrument Cluster Pinpoint Test 8: Anti-Lock Brake Warning Indicator Is Never On/Always On

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 8 - ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR NEVER ON/ALWAYS ON

PINPOINT TEST 8 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER ON/ALWAYS ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 VERIFY THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION
  • Key ON.
  • Observe the anti-lock brake warning indicator. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DESCRIPTION .
  • Did the anti-lock brake warning indicator prove out correctly? 
Yes System is OK.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: ABS Module 0413-102.
  • Key ON.
  • Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the ABS module 0413-102 pin 17, circuit DG, harness side and ground.
  • Does the anti-lock brake warning indicator illuminate with the jumper wire disconnected and turn off with the jumper wire connected? 
Yes Go to step 5.
No Go to step 3.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT DG FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster 0922-101.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-101 pin 18, circuit DG, harness side and the ABS module 0413-102 pin 17, circuit DG, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 4.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
  • Disconnect all ABS module connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new ABS module. See ABS CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
