Instrument Cluster Pinpoint Test 18: Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Always/Never On

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 18 - SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR ALWAYS/NEVER ON

PINPOINT TEST 18 SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR IS ALWAYS/NEVER ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 VERIFY THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION
  • Key ON.
  • Observe the safety belt warning indicator operation.
  • Did the safety belt warning indicator prove out correctly? 
Yes Go to step 2.
No Go to step 5.
2 CHECK CIRCUIT LG FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster 0922-102.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 9, circuit LG, harness side and ground with the safety belt buckled and unbuckled.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the safety belt unbuckled and greater than 10,000 ohms with the seat belt buckled? 
Yes Go to step 5.
No Go to step 3.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (B) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: Driver Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioner 0810-105.
  • Measure the resistance between the driver safety belt retractor pretensioner 0810-105 pin 2, circuit B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 4.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE DRIVER SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONER
  • Measure the resistance between the driver safety belt retractor pretensioner 0810-105 pin 1, component side and the driver safety belt retractor pretensioner 0810-105 pin 4, component side with the safety belt buckled and unbuckled.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the safety belt unbuckled and greater than 10,000 ohms with the seat belt buckled? 
Yes Go to step 5.
No Install a new driver safety belt retractor pretensioner. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test.
