Instrument Cluster Pinpoint Test 11: Check Engine/Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Mil) Indicator Is Inoperative

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 11 - CHECK ENGINE/MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) INDICATOR INOPERATIVE

PINPOINT TEST 11 CHECK ENGINE/MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) INDICATOR IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE POWER TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 0140-175.
  • Key ON.
  • Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire between the PCM 0140-175 pin 2, circuit P/LG, harness side and the PCM 0140-175 pin 24, circuit B/W, harness side.
  • Does the check engine warning indicator illuminate? 
Yes Go to step 4.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK CIRCUIT P/LG FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster 0922-101.
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the resistance between the PCM 0140-175 pin 2, circuit P/LG, harness side and the instrument cluster 0922-101 pin 14, circuit P/LG, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 3.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the instrument cluster self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
  • Disconnect all PCM connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the PCM self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
