Horn Does Not Sound

PINPOINT TEST 1 - HORN WITHOUT SOUND

PINPOINT TEST 1 HORN DOES NOT SOUND
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO HORN
  • Disconnect horn connector 0922-201.
  • Measure the voltage between the horn 0922-201 pin 1, circuit Y/LG, harness side and ground with the horn switch pressed.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 2.
No Go to step 3.
2 CHECK CIRCUIT (B) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the horn 0922-201 pin 2, circuit B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new horn. See HORN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
3 BYPASS SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)
  • Connect horn connector 0922-201.
  • Disconnect SJB connector J-2280a.
  • Connect a jumper wire between the SJB J-2280a pin 30, circuit Y/LG, harness side and between the SJB J-2280a pin 32, circuit R, harness side.
  • Does the horn sound?
Yes Go to step 4.
No Repair Y/LG wire. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE HORN SWITCH CIRCUIT (DL) AT SJB FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect the SJB connector J-2280d.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB J-2280d pin 18, circuit DL, harness side and ground with the horn switch pressed, then released.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the horn switch pressed, and greater than 10,000 ohms with the horn switch released?
Yes Go to step 7.
No Go to step 5.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT DL FOR AN OPEN
  • Deactivate the air bag system; see SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the air bag sliding contact connector 0922-202.
  • Measure the resistance between the air bag sliding contact 0922-202 pin 5, circuit DL, harness side and SJB J-2280d pin 18, circuit DL, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the horn relay connector and horn; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the horn relay connector and ground?
Yes Go to step 6.
No Repair the (DL) wire. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK AIR BAG SLIDING CONTACT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the upper air bag sliding contact connector.
  • Measure the resistance between the air bag sliding contact 0922-202 pin 5, circuit DL, component side and the upper air bag sliding contact connector pin 5, component side.
  • Measure the resistance between the air bag sliding contact 0922-202 pin 2, circuit B/W, component side and the upper air bag sliding contact connector pin 1, circuit B/W, component side.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes Replace the horn switch. See HORN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
No Install a new air bag sliding contact (clockspring). See AIR BAG SLIDING CONTACT (CLOCKSPRING) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK THE SJB FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for corrosion and pushed-out pins.
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Replace the SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
