Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative

PINPOINT TEST 1 - TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE

PINPOINT TEST 1 TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE TURN SIGNALS
  • Key ON.
  • Place the multifunction switch in the LH or RH turn position.
  • Are the turn signal lamps illuminated but not flashing? 
Yes Go to step 9.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK THE STOPLAMPS
  • Observe the rear lamps while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
  • Do the stoplamps operate correctly? 
Yes Go to step 3.
No REFER to Stoplamps, See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - STOPLAMP. .
3 CHECK CIRCUIT LB FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Listen to the indicator flasher while placing the multifunction switch in the LH and RH turn positions.
  • Is there a rapid clicking sound coming continuously from the indicator flasher? 
Yes Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 4.
4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INDICATOR FLASHER
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Indicator Flasher Relay 0918-513.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher relay 0918-513 pin 30, circuit O/Y, harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
Yes Go to step 6.
No Go to step 5.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT O/Y FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280b.
  • Measure the resistance between the indicator flasher relay 0918-513 pin 30, circuit O/Y, harness side and the SJB J-2280b pin 19, circuit O/Y, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 8.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT LB FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch 0918-105.
  • Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch 0918-105 pin 2, circuit LB, harness side and the indicator flasher relay 0918-513 pin 87, circuit LB, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 7.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
  • Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
  • See the appropriate System Wiring Diagrams article.
  • Is the multifunction switch OK? 
Yes Go to step 11.
No Replace the multifunction switch. See MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new SJB. Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
9 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO POWER
  • Carry out the multifunction switch component test.
  • See the appropriate System Wiring Diagrams article.
  • Is the multifunction switch OK? 
Yes Go to step 10.
No Replace the multifunction switch. See MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Test the system for normal operation.
10 CHECK CIRCUIT LB FOR A SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect: Indicator Flasher Relay 0918-513.
  • Measure the voltage between the indicator flasher relay 0918-513 pin 87, circuit LB, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
No Install a new indicator flasher. Test the system for normal operation.
11 CHECK CIRCUIT B FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the indicator flasher relay 0918-513 pin 86, circuit B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Install a new indicator flasher. Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
