Instrument Cluster Pinpoint Test 7: Charge System Warning Indicator Is Never On

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 7 - CHARGE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR NEVER ON

PINPOINT TEST 7 CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER ON
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect generator connector 0117-01.
  • Key ON.
  • Connect a fused jumper wire between pin 1, circuit LG/R of generator connector 0117-01 harness side and ground.
  • Does the charging system warning indicator illuminate? 
Yes See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CHARGING SYSTEM
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK LG/R CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster 0922-102 pin 20, circuit LG/R harness side, and the generator connector 0117-01 pin 1, circuit LG/R on harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Go to step 3.
No Repair the circuit. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Key OFF.
  • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Install a new instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time.
The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
