Removal & Installation (3.0L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 6 and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine coolant into approved container.
  3. Remove the shroud panel.
  4. With the aid of an assistant, mark hood to hinge and remove hood mounting bolts. Remove hood.
  5. Disconnect front side marker light connectors.
  6. NOTE: Letters and numbers correspond to the fasteners in illustration.
  7. Remove screw "A", fastener "A", screw "B", bolt No. 4 and fastener "B". See Figure.
  8. CAUTION: If only one side of the front bumper is disengaged from the bumper slider and the bumper falls, it could be damaged. When disengaging front bumper from the slider, secure bumper so that it does not fall.
  9. Pull front bumper ends (wheel arch) outward to disengage from bumper slider. Pull forward to remove bumper. See Figure.
  10. Disconnect front combination light harness connector. See Figure.
  11. Remove combination light mounting bolts. Remove fastener "A". See Figure.
  12. Remove cover. Remove combination light assembly.
  13. Using wire, support radiator and condenser.
  14. Remove energy-absorbing foam fasteners. See Figure.
  15. Remove energy-absorbing foam.
  16. Remove bumper reinforcement mounting bolts. Remove bumper reinforcement.
  17. Remove the oil hose stay (ATX).
  18. Disconnect the coolant reservoir hose from the radiator.
  19. Disconnect fan control module connectors. See Figure.
  20. Unclip cooling fan harness.
  21. Remove fan control module.
  22. Remove upper radiator hose.
  23. Remove cooling fan motor support.
  24. Remove cooling fan motor.
  25. Remove cooling fan blades from motor.
  26. To install, reverse removal procedure.
