Removal & Installation (2.3L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mazda 6 and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the windshield washer hose.
  3. With the aid of an assistant, mark hood to hinge and remove hood mounting bolts. Remove hood.
  4. Disconnect front side marker light harness connectors.
  5. NOTE: Letters and numbers correspond to the fasteners in illustration.
  6. Remove screw "A", fastener "A", screw "B", bolt No. 4 and fastener "B". See Fig 1.
  7. CAUTION: If only one side of the front bumper is disengaged from the bumper slider and the bumper falls, it could be damaged. When disengaging front bumper from the slider, secure bumper so that it does not fall.
  8. Pull front bumper ends (wheel arch) outward to disengage from bumper slider. Pull forward to remove bumper. See Fig 2.
  9. Disconnect front combination light harness connector. See Fig 3.
  10. Remove combination light mounting bolts. Remove fastener "A". See Fig 3.
  11. Remove cover. Remove combination light assembly.
  12. Using wire, support radiator and condenser.
  13. Remove energy-absorbing foam fasteners. See Fig 4.
  14. Remove energy-absorbing foam.
  15. Remove bumper reinforcement mounting bolts. Remove bumper reinforcement.
  16. Remove the cooler pipe stay.
  17. Remove the oil hose stay.
  18. Disconnect cooling fan motor harness connectors. See Figure.
  19. Disconnect cooling fan wiring harness from fan motor support.
  20. Disconnect coolant reservoir hose from radiator.
  21. Remove cooling fan motor support.
  22. Remove cooling fan blades.
  23. Remove cooling fan motors from support.
  24. To install, reverse removal procedure.
