Test B: Warning Light Illuminates When Ignition Is Turned On & Remains Illuminated

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Access SAS control module and check SAS control module harness connector for damage or improper connection. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector needs repair or correct installation, repair as necessary and then go to step  6.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect SAS control module connector. Check short bar in SAS control module connector, terminals 2W and 2T for damage. If short bar is okay, go to next step. If short bar is damaged or bent, replace wiring harness and go to step  6.
  3. Check short bar hook of SAS control module connector. If short bar hook is okay, go to next step. If short bar is damaged, replace SAS control module and go to step  6. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Insert an insulator between SAS control module harness connector terminals 2W and 2T to disable short bar. See Figure & Figure . Check continuity between ground and SAS control module connector terminal 2W. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step  6.
  5. Check continuity between instrument cluster printed circuit plate terminal 1R and terminals 1A, 1D and 2B. See Figure. If continuity exists between any specified terminals, replace instrument cluster and go to next step. If continuity does not exist between any specified terminals, replace SAS control module and go to next step. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, go to step  1 and repeat inspection.
