DTC 25: Left Side Air Bag Sensor Communication Malfunction

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect SAS control module connector. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Access and disconnect left side air bag sensor. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Check wiring harness between SAS control module connector, terminal 1B and left side air bag module connector, terminal "A" (Green/Orange wire), and between SAS control module connector, terminal 1D and left side air bag module connector, terminal "B" (Blue/Yellow wire), for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring harness is okay, go to next step. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step  6.
  3. Check wiring harness between SAS control module connector, terminal 1F and left side air bag module connector, terminal "C" (Green wire), and SAS control module connector, terminal 1E and left side air bag module connector, terminal "D" (Blue wire) for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring harness is okay and DTC 25 was retrieved as a present malfunction, go to next step. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 22 was retrieved as a past malfunction, replace left air bag sensor and go to step  6. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to step  6.
  4. Measure resistance between left air bag sensor connector terminals, "C" and "D". See Figure. If resistance is about one k/ohms, replace SAS control module and go to next step. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not about one k/ohms, replace left side air bag sensor and go to step  6.
  5. Reconnect connectors to SAS control module, left side air bag sensor, clockspring, passenger-side air bag module and, right and left side air bag modules. Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. If DTC 25 is indicated, replace left side air bag sensor and go to next step. If DTC 25 is not indicated, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
