Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Verify Related Repair Information Availability -  Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Check service bulletins for repair information related to this DTC. If repair information is not available, go to next step. If repair information is available, perform diagnosis and repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  2. Classify Intermittent Concern Or Continuous Concern -  Turn ignition off, then start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1449 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1449 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Inspect CDCV Connector For Poor Connection -  Turn ignition off. Disconnect CDCV 2-pin harness connector. Check for poor connection due to damaged, pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc. If no problem is found, go to next step. If any problems are found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  4. Inspect CDCV -  Measure resistance between CDCV harness connector terminals. If resistance reading is 17-21 ohms, go to next step. If resistance reading is not as specified, replace CDCV. After repair, go to step  9.
  5. Inspect CDCV Power Supply Circuit For Open Circuit -  Turn ignition on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and CDCV 2-pin harness connector terminal "A" (White/Red wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit in White/Red wire between CDCV harness connector terminal "A" and main relay 4-pin harness connector terminal "D". See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step  9.
  6. Inspect PCM Connector For Poor Connection -  Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. See Figure. Check for poor connection due to damaged, pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc. If no problem is found, go to next step. If any problems are found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
    NOTE: Wire color changes between CDCV (Blue/Green wire) and PCM (Yellow wire) at common connector X-13.
  7. Inspect CDCV Control Circuit For Short To Ground -  Check for continuity between ground and CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short circuit to ground between CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 18 (Yellow wire). After repair, go to step  9.
  8. Inspect CDCV Control Circuit For Short To Power -  Connect 104-pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure. Turn ignition on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire). If battery voltage is present, repair short circuit to power between CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 18 (Yellow wire). See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for continuity between CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and breakout box terminal No. 18. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open circuit between CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 18 (Yellow wire). After repair, go to next step.
  9. Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTC P1449 Completed -  Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition off and then on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1449 is present, replace PCM. For PCM removal and installation, see POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. After repair, go to next step. If same DTC P1449 is not present, go to next step.
  10. Verify After Repair Procedure -  Using scan tool, perform After Repair Procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, follow appropriate DTC diagnostic procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
