2-4 Brake Drum, Reverse Clutch & 3-4 Clutch: Disassembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2005 Mazda 6, 2005 Mazda 3, 2004 Mazda 6, 2004 Mazda 3, and 2003 Mazda Protege5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Remove snap ring, rear sun gear plate, bearing and 3-4 clutch hub. Remove 3-4 clutch drum from 2-4 drum. Remove snap ring, retaining plate, drive and driven plates from 3-4 clutch drum. See Fig 1.
Compress seal plate and remove snap ring. Remove spring retainer assembly. Place 3-4 clutch drum onto end cover. Using air pressure, remove clutch piston from 3-4 clutch drum. See Fig 2. Maximum air pressure is 57 psi (4.0 kg/cm² ). Remove 3-4 clutch drum.
Remove snap ring, retaining plate, drive and driven plates, and dish plate from 2-4 brake drum. Compress reverse clutch piston return spring and remove snap ring. Remove reverse return stopper and piston return spring. Place 2-4 clutch drum on end cover. Using air pressure, remove reverse clutch piston from 2-4 clutch drum. See Fig 2. Maximum air pressure is 57 psi (4.0 kg/cm² ). Remove bearing from 2-4 brake drum.
