Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Monitor for FREEZE FRAME DATA and ensure data has been recorded. Check service bulletins for repair information related to this DTC. If repair information is not available, go to next step. If repair information is available, perform diagnosis and repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  2. Disconnect X-06 34-pin common connector, located under right side of center console. See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and Black X-06 34-pin common connector male terminal "J" (White/Green wire). See Fig 2. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power on White/Green wire between Black X-06 34-pin common connector male terminal "J" and clutch switch terminal "A". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repair, go to step  9.

  3. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Connect 104-pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure. Turn ignition switch on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and breakout box terminal No. 6. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in White/Green wire between Black X-06 34-pin common connector female terminal "J" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 6. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step  9.
  4. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect clutch switch harness connector. Check connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If any problems are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9. If no problems are found, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector and Black X-06 34-pin common connector. Measure voltage between ground and clutch switch harness connector terminal "A" (White/Green wire). See Fig 3. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in White/Green wire between PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 6 and clutch switch harness connector terminal "A". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repair, go to step  9.

  6. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Check connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If any problems are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9. If no problems are found, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect Black X-06 34-pin common connector, located under right side of center console. Turn ignition switch off. Depress clutch pedal. Check for continuity between ground and Black X-06 34-pin common connector male terminal "J" (White/Green wire). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in White/Green wire between Black X-06 34-pin common connector male terminal "J" and clutch switch harness connector terminal "A". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repair, go to step  9.
  8. Remove clutch switch. Check for continuity between clutch switch terminals. Continuity should be present, with clutch switch rod released and should not be present with clutch switch rod depressed. If clutch switch operation is as specified, go to next step. If clutch switch operation is not as specified, replace clutch switch. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Reconnect all connectors. Start engine. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Drive vehicle at more than 19 MPH. Depress clutch pedal more than 10 times. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0704 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0704 is not present, go to next step.
  10. Cycle ignition switch from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
