Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Monitor for FREEZE FRAME DATA and ensure data has been recorded. Check service bulletins for repair information related to this DTC. If repair information is not available, go to next step. If repair information is available, perform diagnosis and repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  5.
  2. Turn ignition switch on. Ensure steering wheel is straight ahead. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for PSP SW. If PID is on, go to next step. If PID is not on, problem is not current (intermittent).
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PSP switch connector. Connect ohmmeter between PSP switch connector terminal and ground. Start engine and operate at idle. Turn steering wheel from side to side and observe ohmmeter. Continuity should be present when steering wheel is fully turned. Continuity should not be present when steering wheel is straight ahead. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace PSP switch. After repair, go to step  5.
  4. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect PCM and PSP switch harness connectors. Check for continuity between ground and PSP harness connector terminal (Black/White wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Black/White wire between PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 31 and PSP switch harness connector terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After repair, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect all connectors. Start engine. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Ensure ECT PID is more than 140°F (60°C). Drive vehicle at more than 37.4 MPH for one minute. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0550 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0550 is not present, go to next step.
  6. Cycle ignition switch from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
