Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Monitor for FREEZE FRAME DATA and ensure data has been recorded. Check service bulletins for repair information related to this DTC. If repair information is not available, go to next step. If repair information is available, perform diagnosis and repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 9.
- Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector. Connect voltmeter between CMP sensor terminals. Check for AC voltage while cranking engine. If A/C voltage is not present, go to next step. If A/C voltage is present, go to step 4.
- Check resistance between CMP sensor terminals. If resistance is 950-1250 ohms, repair poor connection at harness connector. Go to step 9. If resistance is not as specified, replace CMP sensor. Go to step 9.
- Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Inspect PCM and harness connector terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 9.
- Check continuity of Blue wire between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "A" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 85. See Figure. Check continuity of Green wire between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "B" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 86. If continuity is present in both wires, go to next step. If continuity is not present in either wire, repair open is suspect wire. Go to step 9.
- Check for continuity between ground and CMP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Blue wire). Check for continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Green wire) and ground. If continuity is not present in both wires, go to next step. If continuity is present either wire, repair short to ground in suspect wire. Go to step 9.
- Check for continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminals. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short between circuits. Go to step 9.
- Check CMP sensor operation. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Replace as necessary and go to next step. If CMP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition switch on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Ensure MAF reading is more than 2.2 gram/sec. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0340 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0340 is not present, go to next step.
- Cycle ignition switch from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
