On-Vehicle Deployment (Scrapped Vehicle): Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: A live (undeployed) air bag module and/or pretensioner may accidentally deploy when it is disposed of. Personal injury may result. Do not dispose of a live air bag module and/or pretensioner. If deployment tool is not available, contact nearest Mazda representative for disposal instructions.
A live (undeployed) air bag module and/or pretensioner may accidentally deploy when it is disposed of. Personal injury may result. Driver- and passenger-side air bag modules are dual-stage air bags. When dual-stage inflators are forced simultaneously, one of them may fail to deploy. When deploying dual-stage air bags, ensure inflators are deployed sequentially.
Pouring water onto deployed air bags or pretensioners can create dangerous gas. Difficult breathing may result. Keep water away from deployed air bags and pretensioners.
CAUTION: Deploying air bag modules and pretensioners inside vehicle may damage vehicle interior. Damaged parts and component may have to be replaced unnecessarily. When vehicle is not to be scrapped, always use off-vehicle deployment procedures.
