Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove appropriate seat belt D-ring cover and bolt. Position front and rear weatherstrips aside. Remove upper B-pillar trim panel. Remove front and rear door scuff plates. Remove lower B-pillar trim panel. Disconnect side air bag crash sensor electrical connector. See Fig 1 . Remove side air bag crash sensor mounting bolts and sensor.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten side air bag crash sensor mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, verify system. See VERIFY SYSTEM  under DIAGNOSTICS.
  4. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
