Removal & Installation

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Remove appropriate seat belt D-ring cover and bolt. Position front and rear weatherstrips aside. Remove upper B-pillar trim panel. Remove front and rear door scuff plates. Remove lower B-pillar trim panel. Disconnect side air bag crash sensor electrical connector. See Fig 1 . Remove side air bag crash sensor mounting bolts and sensor.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten side air bag crash sensor mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, verify system. See VERIFY SYSTEM under DIAGNOSTICS.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
