Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Clockspring is located on steering column beneath steering wheel. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Leave negative battery cable disconnected.
- Place tilt steering column in full downward position, if equipped. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Push in on front and side edges of upper steering column shroud and release retainers.
- Remove upper steering column shroud. Release tilt column locking lever, if equipped. Remove lower steering column shroud screws and shroud (steering column must be in raised position to remove lower steering column shroud). Apply 2 strips of tape across clockspring assembly to prevent accidental rotation. See Fig 1 .
- Remove clockspring retaining screws. Pull clockspring away from steering column and disconnect accessory electrical connector. Disconnect clockspring electrical connector and remove clockspring. Install Air Bag Simulator (418-F468) on vehicle harness side of clockspring electrical connector.
